Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Energy is seeking a temporary, part time (0.5 FTE) Faculty to deliver lectures and laboratory activities in-person, evaluate (including marking) student progress, and support the day-to-day operations of the department. As valued members of our team of respected faculty with extensive industry experience and knowledge, the ideal candidates will bring practical skills to the classroom, inspiring and guiding future practitioners in their field.

BCIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology offers diplomas in electrical engineering technology with options in electrical power and industrial control, telecommunications and networking, and automation and instrumentation, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering.
Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in subject areas related to electrical engineering and technology. Specifically, the successful candidates will be expected to teach ELEX 3525 – Data Communications in accordance with the current course outline.

As a passionate educator, the successful candidate will leverage their expertise to engage and challenge students while fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
Additionally, the successful candidates will be responsible to meet the course learning objectives, participate in department activities, engage with team members, support continuous improvement initiatives within the department, and perform other duties in accordance with the collective agreement.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

Required qualifications include:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum five years of relevant, hands-on industry experience;
  • Effective command of the English language, both written and oral, and
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

Candidates must have a solid foundation in data communications including serial interfaces, line codes, framing, error detection and correction, and network protocols at the physical and link layers.

Knowledge and practical experience in the following areas are required:
  • With numerical analysis tools such as MatLab, Octave, etc.;
  • Protocol analysers such as Wireshark, and
  • Laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, waveform generators, and other benchtop equipment.

Desirable qualifications:
The following skills and experience will be considered an asset:
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels including international students and students requiring accommodation, and
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee Engineer (P.L. Eng.) in BC.

Salary Range Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
