Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Construction and Environment is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Faculty who is an enthusiastic, team-oriented professional with expertise in municipal engineering to strengthen BCIT’s civil engineering program.  Having a background in other disciplines of civil engineering, such as construction management, would be an asset, as all instructors in the department contribute to delivering a program that covers almost the entire range of disciplines in civil engineering.  The Instructor must have a strong commitment to teaching and interacting with students, an ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and an interest in developing and delivering quality curriculum to all levels.  Additionally, the Instructor is expected to participate in continuous program improvement and administration, including outreach and accreditation.

The department of Civil Engineering at BCIT offers a four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. The flexible, integrated program also allows students to exit with a nationally recognized Diploma of Technology after two years of study. The primary goal of the program is to graduate highly qualified, practically oriented civil technologists and engineers eligible for professional registration.  In part, this is achieved through faculty’s excellent ties to industry.  Graduates have an excellent record of employment and advancement in the diverse civil engineering industry in B.C. and elsewhere. 
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate is expected to have the ability to teach the suite of courses related to municipal engineering.  The candidate is also expected to teach and/or assist in other civil engineering courses. 
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Professional Engineer registration in Canada or the U.S.A.
  • Graduate degree in civil engineering
  • Minimum four years of applicable design or construction experience related to civil/municipal engineering in North America
  • Industry experience and knowledge in municipal engineering
  • Industry experience in construction management, project management, and/or geotechnical engineering would be an asset
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary engineering projects
  • Strong working knowledge of Civil3D and other industry standard software for municipal engineering
  • Experience using geospatial data analytics software in engineering projects would be an asset
  • Experience working on projects addressing impact, regulatory, and climate change issues
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience in training, developing or mentoring  technologists or junior engineers

Salary Range Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
