Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Energy is seeking a temporary, full time (1.0 FTE) Faculty (available as one fulltime or two halftime positions). This position delivers lectures and laboratory activities, evaluate student progress, supervise student projects, and support the day-to-day operations of the department. As a valued member of our team of respected faculty with extensive industry experience and knowledge, you will bring practical skills to the classroom, inspiring and guiding future practitioners in their field.

BCIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology offers diplomas in electrical engineering technology with options in electrical power and industrial control, automation and instrumentation, and telecommunications and networking, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering.

Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in subject areas related to electrical power and industrial control and course material will be provided. As a passionate educator, they will leverage their expertise to engage and challenge students, fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible to meet the course learning objectives, participate in department activities, engage with team members, support continuous improvement initiatives within the department, and other duties as specified in the collective agreement.

The candidate must have a solid foundation in:
  • Power electronics related to power systems (inverters and rectifiers);
  • Renewable energy analysis (solar, wind, etc.);
  • Electric machines and variable frequency drives (VFDs);
  • Introductory digital signal processing principles (Fourier analysis and pulse width modulation);
  • RLC circuit analysis (second order), and
  • The use of electronics lab equipment (power supplies, function generators, power analyser, oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Hands-on practical experience in industrial installations, testing, commissioning, operation, or troubleshooting.

In addition, experience in one or more of the following areas will be an asset:
  • PCB design (applications to power electronics);
  • Testing and troubleshooting power electronics such as inverters and rectifiers;
  • Three-phase electrical power system equipment design and application;
  • Power quality and harmonics analysis, and
  • Computer simulation tools such as Matlab, ETAP, PSCAD, EMTP-RV, etc.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years of relevant hands-on industry experience.
  • Registration (or eligibility to register) as a Professional Engineer (PEng) is preferred.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience is preferred.
  • Effective command of the English language – both written and oral.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams and independently.

Salary Range Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
