Position Summary
BCIT’s Learning and Teaching Centre is seeking a regular, full time (1.0 FTE) Video and Digital Media Producer. This position is responsible for creative and technical production of non-print instructional, informational and marketing media for BCIT including digital and analog video, audio, photos and multimedia in a project team environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meets with clients to determine project scope, content, objectives, target audience and delivery mode.
  • Advises clients on appropriate media, costs, timelines and production process.
  • Coordinates staff, equipment, budget and schedule required to complete cost-effective productions.
  • Researches and writes treatment and script, in consultation with the project sponsor, content expert and the Instructional Development Consultant and project team.
  • Obtains consensus on script or other approvals as appropriate.
  • Hires, coordinates and supervises external services such as actors, writers, production crew, when required.
  • Directs talent and technical crew in the studio and on location.
  • Creates digital and analogue files of video, photographs, audio, and graphics to a professional standard for delivery in print, displays, video, audio, multimedia and web formats.
  • Produces live streaming of video and audio to the Web, in cooperation with ITS staff and other BCIT departments.
  • Selects and performs editing and mixing requirements to create final production.
  • Coordinates the design, format, packaging and delivery of the production.
  • Maintains close relationship with clients, sponsors and project team throughout the production process.
  • Delivers project on budget and within the timeframe while meeting client’s objectives and expectations.
  • Works with client in evaluating project effectiveness.
  • Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.

Other Related Duties
  • Investigates new media production hardware/software to determine availability, performance and compatibility with existing equipment for instructional, informational or marketing purposes.
  • Keeps informed about trends in media production through ongoing professional development.
  • Ensures production equipment is serviced and maintained in good working order.
  • Researches cost and availability of external production resources.
  • Orders and maintains a comprehensive equipment inventory and stock library of images.

The following duties may be required from time to time:
  • Travel to other BC locations
  • Overtime

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS

Definition:
The qualifications section for this position was developed using the approved job evaluation plan, agreed to between the BCGEU and BCIT. The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications.

Education:
  • Grade 12, plus completion of a two year diploma program or equivalent in non-print media production including digital video and multimedia production.

License(s)/Certification(s):
  • Valid BC Driver’s license.

Experience:
  • Five years professional experience in digital media production including script-writing, photography, audio, professional video camera work and non-linear editing systems.
  • Two years’ experience in directing media productions (portfolio required).

Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:
  • Demonstrated ability in Windows and Macintosh computer applications used in media production, digital editing and post-production.

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
  • Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Other Skills/Abilities:
  • Basic skills in project management.

Salary Range Salary Grade 10: $68,024 - $73,770 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
