Position Summary
BCIT’s Campus Planning and Facilities is seeking a regular, full time (1.0 FTE) Senior Project Coordinator. As part of the Energy Management team, this position supports BCIT’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the execution of energy efficiency and emission reduction initiatives. The position is responsible for implementation of all aspects of energy projects, adhering to schedule, budget, and other organizational requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the management, coordination, and implementation of multiple projects across all BCIT campuses.
  • Establishes and analyzes customer requirements and develops project plans, scope of work, budget, and schedule.
  • Facilitates, directs, and instructs consultants in the preparation of projects within the established Institute standards and guidelines, municipal codes, WorkSafeBC regulations and other applicable government regulations to ensure that all requirements and financial commitments are met.
  • Collaborates and reviews with the Campus Planning and Facilities department the reports, specifications and drawings of current and proposed projects.
  • In consultation with Manager, Facilities Services – Energy, acquires, reviews and awards external service contracts.
  • Designs and prepares tender documents and construction contract drawings and specifications.
  • Arranges for risk assessments and/or hazardous material sampling at project initiation to advise occupants, consultants and contractors of potential risks.
  • Administers the tender process including the preparation, issue, review and award of the contract.
  • Oversees project costs, authorizes payment for completed work, and prepares change orders to scope, complete and prepare reports and cost analyses.
  • Administers contracts, maintains project schedule, reports and monitors construction progress and continuously update the stakeholders.
  • Communicates with individuals from a variety of departments within BCIT and external contractors, including working with difficult or upset customers, describing problems and explaining complex projects to ensure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Collaborates with and recommends a course of action on project activities with customer group, utilities, and governmental agencies; ensures the work schedule has minimum disruption to other Institute activities.
  • Executes project closeout including arranging for final clean up, testing and commissioning, final inspection and approvals, and ensuring timely correction of deficiencies. Compiles operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals and as-built drawings.
  • Applies for Municipal Building permits and other related permits as necessary for each project.
  • Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future (i.e. to be reflected in job postings) and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Energy Management, Project Management or relevant discipline.

Experience:
  • Two years’ general experience, plus four years’ direct experience in developing and administering projects and plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of codes and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energy management or sustainability principles.
  • Ability to manage projects, including ability to lead a team of professionals, contractors and internal clients.

Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:
  • Intermediate to advanced experience using a variety of software packages such as AutoCAD, Archibus, Microsoft Office and related databases.

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
  • Superb written and oral communication. Must be a team player with a customer service focus.

Administrative Skills (e.g. prioritizing, minute taking, wp speed, etc.):
  • Must be able to work to and within tight deadlines and approved project budgets. Strong conceptual thinking and problem solving skills. Excellent organization, coordination, and follow-up skills.

Salary Range Salary Grade 10: $68,024 - $73,770 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
