Position Summary
BCIT’s Operations Management department is looking for a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE, 15 contact hours) Instructor to teach courses in the areas of Business Systems, Business Intelligence/Analytics, and IT Management.
Duties & Responsibilities
We are seeking an instructor committed to quality and innovation in meeting our students’ learning needs, and who values the importance of teamwork in the workplace.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current experience involving the application of information technology to business process requirements.
  • Excellent English-language communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work in a collegial environment.
  • Ability to lead other instructors and be led by other instructors in a team-teaching model.
  • Ability to teach in the following areas:
    • Business Systems (Microsoft 365: OneDrive, Word, Excel (including Power Query), PowerPoint, and Access)
    • Data Modeling Expertise: Proficiency in data modeling, including understanding of conceptual, logical, and physical models, normalization, denormalization, star and snowflake schemas, and dimension and fact tables.
    • Proficiency in SQL: Strong knowledge of SQL for data manipulation and querying across various database systems, as SQL is foundational for data analysis and often used in conjunction with data visualization tools.
    • Expertise in Tableau: Comprehensive knowledge of Tableau’s interface and features, including data connection, data blending, and data extraction.
    • Expertise in Power BI: Profound understanding of Power BI’s components such as Power Query, Power Pivot, Data Model, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions), and Power BI Service.
    • Data Analysis and Business Intelligence: Solid background in data analysis methodologies and business intelligence concepts. Ability to teach how to derive insights from data and make data-driven decisions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary institution.
  • IT consulting experience.
  • Recent leadership/management experience in the business IT community.
  • Master’s Degree or in progress, in a related field to business or information technology, or equivalent business IT experience (approx. 10 years).
  • PMP certification.

Salary Range Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
