Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) Project Lead, Mass Timber and Offsite Construction. This position leads projects that focus on exploring opportunities to develop curriculum and pilot programs that will support both the entry level and the upskilling of individuals in the mass timber and offsite construction sector. Works within a team of interdisciplinary colleagues to identify training opportunities and to implement changes or improvements within existing BCIT programs. Identifies curriculum training gaps and proposes solutions to address them. Prepares project plans, identifies project resources, monitors project progress and resources from project initiation to completion.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drafts the project’s goals and deliverables, along with a tactical project proposal for actions and implementation based on the School’s organizational goals and mandate. Gains endorsement of the proposal from management and stakeholders.
  • In conjunction with the Manager, develops the project plan and strategy to achieve the goals of the assigned project.
  • Leads projects to achieve the goals and deliverables of the project. Monitors project progress and resources, reporting out project progress and addressing roadblocks with leadership teams and stakeholders.
  • Conducts an inventory of the School’s courses and programs, to identify existing training, or gaps in training, related to Mass Timber Construction and its industry skill needs.
  • Gathers information through industry surveys and BCIT initiatives, conducting a needs analysis of the construction sector to identify existing training, or gaps in training, related to Mass Timber and the broader field of Off-Site Construction.
  • Presents regular project reviews to the Manager, the working group, and other project stakeholders. Prepares regular project progress reports and subsequently final detailed technical report(s) as required.
  • Develops a recommendation/plan designed to address the most pressing educational needs of the sector, validating or disproving their tangible support for training in Installation, Manufacturing and in applicable Design considerations.
  • Establishes and maintains effective liaison and relationships with both internal and external stakeholders including the School’s Dean, Associate Dean, BCIT staff, external consultants and industry partners to keep abreast with Industry needs, skill gaps, industry developments and changes and to move project progress forward.
  • Keeps abreast with the current Industry trends and provides advice on emerging issues and opportunities for the mass timber sector and on-site construction field, thereby enabling the School to identify and take advantage of emerging opportunities.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in engineering, architecture, science or project management, or in a related field.
  • Seven years related experience with a combination of post-secondary teaching, private sector and supervisory experience preferably in wood science, mass timber and/or off-site construction

Other Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience at managing projects and working within complex project framework with ability to deal with cross functional teams and multiple stakeholders
  • Strong leadership, negotiation and problem solving skills.
  • Good organizational skills and high degree of self-motivation and business acumen.
  • Superior communication skills both written and verbal with ability to use judgment, tact, discretion and sensitivity when interacting with a diverse range of contacts required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and as well as in a team environmental and with a highly diverse population.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including word-processing, database, spreadsheet and presentation software.

Salary Range Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
