Position Summary
BCIT’s in-house Auxiliary Trades Support Services is looking for high caliber, dynamic and flexible individuals who have the skills and ability to work within the Institute in a variety of temporary assignments. Duties may include labour work, general maintenance and mechanical work. Employees may also work as a tool room attendant and first aid attendant.

This competition is on-going with opportunities for part-time or full-time hours of work.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serving our workforce at our various campuses, placements may vary from a few hours to several months in duration. Flexibility and adaptability are crucial to being successful in a temporary role. We provide support where employees are absent due to sick leave, vacation, or to assist with heavy workloads. Due to the varying demand for services, there may be breaks between assignments, we therefore cannot guarantee ongoing employment.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 plus 6 months post-secondary education and/or training such as trades training.
  • Two years of general work experience plus one year of experience in trades environments such as construction or material handling.
  • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance and hand tools.
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office package.
  • The ability to be called in on short-notice and work at various campus locations.
  • Customer-service oriented with an emphasis on excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Valid BC driver’s license.
  • Trades Qualification, Forklift and Level Two or Three First Aid Certification are assets.

Please note: these are the minimum required qualifications. This position is a dayshift position as defined in Article 14.1 of the Collective Agreement.

Salary Range Salary varies based on position: $27.11 - $38.25 per hour.
Additional Salary Information
External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
