Position Summary
BCIT’s Marketing and Communications department is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Events & Experiential Specialist. The Events and Experiential Specialist is responsible for creating brand advocates through the development and execution of all Institute events. The Specialist takes a lead role in creating and supporting a vision that encompasses event strategy, objectives, stakeholder management and consultation, optimizations, and success metrics. The Specialist implements business improvements rooted in research and results to create an exceptional stakeholder experience and elevate the BCIT brand. The Specialist works pan-institutionally, alongside all client groups including the President’s Office, Board of Governors, and government to support institutional, school, and departmental objectives and present BCIT as best-in-class, both internally and externally.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Leadership & Execution:
  • Aligns on an executional vision and implements this vision for all BCIT events, activations, and initiatives.
  • Consults with a variety of stakeholder groups to strategically lead, plan, and execute 100+ annual events.
  • Nurtures and develops effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders including government and media to ensure effective communication and manage information, often confidential in nature.
  • Works alongside the digital team to promote Institute events via a variety of social channels
  • Measures success through the creation and implementation of scorecard metrics and makes subsequent data-driven recommendations for optimizations and continuous improvement.
  • Gathers research and data pertaining to events and activations and makes informed recommendations to set BCIT up for success.
  • Works with the Marketing & Communications team to brainstorm, plan, and execute non-traditional, digital-first recruitment and guerilla marketing activations.
  • Leverages emerging technologies to drive efficacy and efficiency.

Operational:
  • Researches and analyzes stakeholder needs and advises on all aspects of event coordination; documents recommendations; builds post-event data analysis; and shares results.
  • Builds and facilitates professional and concise planning meetings with key stakeholders; producing agendas, taking minutes, and tracking timelines.
  • Conceptualizes and creates high-level events and activations; develops proficient and professional executive proposals, briefings, agendas, critical paths, and budgets. Tracks progress and measures success accordingly.
  • Provides direction and liaises directly with the Creative team in the digital design and development of event collateral, including invitations, programs, websites, scripting, , sponsorship, and/or advertising materials.
  • Leads and implements all logistical support for events and activations.
  • Leads the development and maintenance of departmental events databases and training manuals.
  • Leads the planning and facilitation of volunteer and employee training programs and succession planning as requested by the Manager.
  • Participates in professional organizations and remains current of trends in the marketing and communications field.
  • Participates in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade for this position.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality Management or similar discipline.

Experience:
  • Two years of general experience, plus two years of practical current experience in event management.

Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and the web.

Communication/Interpersonal Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, diplomatically, and proactively at all levels.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work and lead multiple, simultaneous projects from inception to completion in a team or independently.
  • Extremely resourceful, a self-starter, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and change gears in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptable while maintaining composure and professional performance levels in a dynamic environment.

Other Skills/Abilities:
  • Must be adaptable to rapid change.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required, including evenings and weekends.

Salary Range Salary Grade 8; $56,997 - $61,919 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
External hires are initially placed at the minimum of the salary range with set progressions to the maximum as per the Collective Agreement. Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
