Position Summary
BCIT’s Accessibility Services is seeking a temporary, part time (0.2 FTE) Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. Vocational Rehabilitation involves multidisciplinary skills, experience, education and training to assist persons with functional, psychological, developmental, cognitive and emotional impairments and health conditions to overcome barriers. Accessibility Services informs and supports the BCIT community regarding the learning needs of students with disabilities, and contributes to enhancing the quality of their education.
Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

  • Case management of support services for students with disabilities
  • Liaising with faculty, agencies, and medical professionals
  • Conducting interviews
  • Providing course and program information
  • Determining and implementing academic accommodations
  • Coordinating financial aid and adaptive technology

Success in this position will entail a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of vocational rehabilitation, as well as demonstrated skill in the areas of education and career counseling, including knowledge of labour market trends. Knowledge of learning disability assessments would be an asset.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, or equivalent
  • Minimum five years’ experience in the field working with clients with a broad range of disabilities (preferably in a post-secondary setting)
  • Demonstrated skills as a team player
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are essential
  • Proficiency in Windows software applications and the ability to provide data for reports
  • Knowledge of tests used in learning disability assessments, the ability to evaluate them critically, training in measurement, psychometrics, and learning disability assessment would be assets.

Salary Range Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
