Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Transportation is seeking a regular, full-time Faculty, Trades Discovery. The Trades Access Department offers programs and services to support students who are enrolled in, or planning to enter Trades and/or Technical training at BCIT.

Our programs and services include:

  • Entry Assessment in English, Mathematics, Physics and Mechanical Reasoning.
  • Remedial support Mathematics, Study Skills, Drawing Interpretation, and Science Concepts.
  • Programming in Trades Exploration both Post-Secondary and High School partnerships well as Trades Technical Literacy for English as an Additional Language Learners.
Duties & Responsibilities
This position is not just about teaching Trades concepts it also requires a person willing to:

  • motivate students to learn,
  • teach employability skills and assist with time management,
  • support students who are struggling, and
  • challenge students who are excelling.

You bring with you demonstrated experience with:
  • a strong desire to teach,
  • workshop instruction and supervision,
  • knowledge of teaching techniques and learning styles,
  • instructional counselling, evaluation and preparation,
  • curriculum maintenance and program enhancement,
  • administrative responsibilities, marking of assignments, exams and practical assessments.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BC Trades Qualification with Inter-Provincial Red Seal in one or more of a Construction, Transportation, or Manufacturing Trade
  • A minimum of five years journeyperson industry experience
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Current computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Word, learning management systems and the ability to manage files located on a database
  • Documented experience working as an Instructor in a post-secondary or industrial setting.
  • Completion of an instructional techniques course or the Provincial Instructor Diploma an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collegial manner within a team and to contribute to a continuous improvement environment.

Salary Range Salary Range: $68,375 - $101,563 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
