Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Faculty, Mining Engineering to deliver courses in the Mineral Exploration and Mining Technology diploma program and the Mining and Mineral Resources Engineering degree program.

The department is seeking mining engineers with knowledge and experience in at least two of the following areas:
  • Surface mine operations, surface mine design
  • Mine project evaluation – pre-feasibility studies
  • Computer mine design
  • Soil and rock mechanics

The successful candidates will be committed to prepare students for an exciting career in the mining industry. Success of the BCIT mining diploma and degree programs is achieved through the faculty’s excellence in instruction, close ties with industry, and mentoring and motivating of the students to succeed. Graduates of both the diploma and degree programs find employment in a wide range of fields in both the public and private sectors.
Duties & Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be expected to teach fundamental and advanced topics in a wide range of mining engineering courses. They will be responsible for developing course materials; delivering lectures and labs; developing and marking assignments and exams; supervising student projects; and planning and supervising field trips where necessary. They will be expected also to carry out duties necessary for successful operation of the program, including participation in department meetings, program accreditation, and student outreach activities.
Qualifications
MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate degree in mining engineering; applicants with a graduate degree in a related field and with appropriate experience may be considered
  • 5 years of industry experience in mining engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada; pending registration may be considered
  • Broad knowledge of mining engineering in North America
  • High-level knowledge of a combination of subjects that include surface mine operations, surface mine design, mine project evaluation, pre-feasibility studies, computer mine design, soil and rock mechanics
  • Working knowledge of current versions of common mine design software
  • Comfortable with teaching in classroom and online environment
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Strong team player
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel on class field trips

Salary Range Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
