Position Summary
BCIT and the School of Construction and the Environment is seeking a temporary, full-time Instructor for our Metal Fabrication team. We are currently seeking applications from individuals who hold a Red Seal certification as a Metal Fabricator and are interested in sharing their trade knowledge and abilities with future tradespersons (Foundations Students) and current industry apprentices (Apprenticeship and Part Time Studies). Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Classroom instruction and lesson preparation
  • Shop and lab instruction and supervision
  • Evaluation of learning and teaching
  • Operation of shop equipment and demonstration of that operation to students
  • Administrative responsibilities such as submitting marks, internal and external communications
  • Other duties as assigned by the department relating to instruction and curriculum
  • Development and maintenance of curriculum
  • Collaboration and teamwork with the department and chief instructor

In addition to these duties, a person with the willingness to learn new concepts and address technical developments in their field is a must. The successful candidate will have the ability to motivate students to learn and commit themselves to excellence in instruction.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BC Certificate of Qualification with Inter-provincial Red Seal in Metal/Steel Fabrication.
  • Minimum of five years’ current experience as a journeyperson in a variety of applications.
  • Plate and pressure shop experience would be an asset.
  • Shipbuilding experience would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to instruct the curriculum.
  • Previous supervisory, teaching or leadership experience.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Operation and programming of CNC equipment would be an asset.
  • Provincial Instructor Diploma (or willingness to achieve such).
  • Knowledge of relevant safe work practices.
  • Welding ticket and/or shipbuilding/repair experience would be an asset.
  • Current computer and technological literacy including, but not limited to Microsoft excel and word.

Salary Range Salary range: $68,375 - $101,563 per annum
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment.
