Position Summary
BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment is currently seeking a regular, full-time (1.0) Faculty, Civil Engineering.
The Instructor is an enthusiastic, team-oriented professional with expertise in road and highway engineering and geometric design to strengthen BCIT’s Civil Engineering program.
The department of Civil Engineering at BCIT offers a four-year Bachelor of Engineering degree program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board. The flexible, integrated program also allows students to exit with a nationally recognized Diploma of Technology after two years of study. The primary goal of the program is to graduate highly qualified, practically oriented civil technologists and engineers eligible for professional registration. In part, this is achieved through faculty’s excellent ties to industry. Graduates have an excellent record of employment and advancement in the diverse civil engineering industry in B.C. and elsewhere.
Duties & Responsibilities
Having a background in other discipline(s) of civil engineering would be an asset, as all instructors in the department contribute to delivering a program that covers a broad range of disciplines in civil engineering. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching and interacting with students, an ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and an interest in developing and delivering quality curriculum to all levels. Additionally, the Instructor is expected to participate in continuous program improvement and administration, including outreach and collaborations.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in transportation engineering, or Master’s degree in a discipline of civil engineering with relevant work experience may be considered
  • Four years of applicable consulting and design experience related to transportation engineering in North America, including geometric design of roadway facilities.
  • Current Professional Engineer registration in Canada or the U.S.A., or current application for registration in progress
  • Demonstrated collaboration, teamwork and leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience at a post-secondary level
  • Experience in training, developing and/or mentoring technologists and/or junior engineers
  • Demonstrated technical competency in and project experience with Civil 3D software
  • Experience and knowledge in construction management and engineering construction contracts
  • Knowledge of law for Professional Engineers

Salary Range Salary Range: $63,150 - $110,238 per annum.
Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
